Case Studies
Electric fence installation
Situation
An elderly woman whose husband recently passed away had no security installed.
Task
Living on her own, installing a home security solution that had an advanced warning feature was a high priority for her, both to act as a deterrent to any intruders, and to allow her to be able to react in time should an intrusion occur. A monitored electric security fence was an ideal solution to meet her needs.
Action
A 6 wire wall top electric security fence using Nemtek’s square tubing brackets was installed. Stays were mounted in the corners for support. Stainless steel 316 wires were tensioned with hybrid compression springs, spring hooks and ferrules. The Nemtek Druid 15 energizer with a Nemtek tag, a siren, strobe and lightning protection was installed in the garage. The optional extra keypad could be added to the energizer at a later stage if required. The warning signs and earth spikes were placed at the legal required spacing, and by means of a Nemtek in line sliding gate contact, the gate was also now part of this monitored electric security fence. For added security, wall mount loops and in line earth loops were installed in case anyone tampered with the electric fence wires. The energizers alarm telemetry contacts were connected to existing house IDS alarm panic button input, witch notifies the security service.
Results
With this solution installed, the customer can rest assured knowing that she is protected by a Nemtek electric security fence, which acts as a strong defence against intruders and provides advanced warning in the event someone tries to tamper or break through it.
Household energy security
situation
A client was interested in investing upfront in renewable solar energy to a) have energy security and b) go green.
our approach
Easy Electrical did an assessment. This particular house had an 80 Amp main breaker single phase supply. The house had a roof facing north with an incline of 35 degrees and had sufficient square meter surface area for a 5KW solar array. We came to the conclusion that the best PV system would be a SMA hybrid system.
the solution
Easy Electrical installed a 5KW Sunny Boy grid tied inverter, a 4,4KW Sunny Island battery grid tied inverter with a Sunny Home Manager monitoring system. On the north facing roof we installed 20 x 275KW PV solar panels. For the storage/backup supply we installed 20 x 75 Amp/hour deep cycle lead acid valve regulated batteries onto a wall mounted battery rack. For the electrical distribution we installed a 100 amp isolating contactor for grid islanding, 2 x DB boards (1 x AC, 1 x DC) with overload, isolating and surge protection according to SANS standards.
The end result is a SMA grid tied hybrid system supplying the entire house during day and night time and feeding of access power not used for self-consumption into the utility estate mini grid supply. This particular system will supply the house during Eskom power failures.
an investment worth making
This particular system will pay it self within less than 5 years , with the 10% annual power tariff increase the payback period will drop even further, when the PV system is paid electricity is free. The client will save his monthly electrical utility bills with can be used for other personal use.
